How will the course be?
YIDISH LANGUAGE
The Yiddish language module will be taught in groups by levels in which learning Yiddish as a language of communication and expression will be emphasized, its relationship with other languages will be highlighted, and tools will be offered to facilitate access to historical and literary sources.
The advanced level will focus on the reading of texts and will address the main thematic nuclei and historical routes of essay writing in modern Yiddish literature.
Yiddish culture
The modules made up of the Yiddish culture seminars are structured around the central idea that languages and their cultures shape worldviews as they create filters through which we interpret our experiences.
Translation is a fundamental practice of the encounter between cultures and a key resource of cultural diversity. In the case of the Yiddish language, translation has historically been a constitutive aspect of its social and political role. This seminar will address translation and its historical and contemporary functions in a broad sense.
