Cybersecurity, a capital issue for large companies, and also for SMEs
Back in May, President Joe Biden called for greater efforts to combat cybersecurity on the nation's power grid and asked industry leaders to install technologies to prevent attempted supply attacks.
Alejandro Mayorkas, Secretary of Homeland Security of the United States, raised the alarm through a speech before the Chamber of Commerce in which he warned of the existential threat that these attacks pose both to the business world and to administrations public.
Colonial Pipeline, SolarWinds, Pulse Secure VPN or LinkedIn are some of the administrative entities and companies that have been affected in this country, but it is not the only one. In Spain, for example, the SEPE (Public Employment Service) has suffered similar attacks in recent months, from which payments to millions of people in an ERTE situation have been compromised.
How to deal with these attacks? With training and investing resources
Having security systems in the business field, also in the administrative field, that are effective and not vulnerable, improves trust and customer loyalty. It is not only about guaranteeing the privacy of the data, since this is something required by law, but about turning this into an element to gain competitiveness, that is, to help improve the corporate image.
An internet user or a customer of an online store will feel more confident in those web spaces that guarantee the discretion and privacy of their data. In the cybersecurity scenario, the message is very clear: we must continue to promote this area, since weaknesses are still very present, and giving up on the digitization of society is, today, something impossible.
The formula for improving cybersecurity and having more tools to deal with cyberattacks is a lot of training and resources, both material and human. Investment in cybersecurity is essential for companies, including SMEs in this section as well.
A profession on the rise, but only if sufficient knowledge and experience are acquired
Continuous cyber attacks, which make headlines in the press almost every week, together with the progressive digitization of society, are causing growth this discipline of computer security as a popular destination for employment.
However, it is important to note that companies are only interested in well-trained professionals. The importance of studying a master's degree in cybersecurity lies in the fact that it is an optimal way to find a job, since it adds the previous training path, related to computer science or disciplines close to ICT, together with this very current scenario of computer attacks .
Over the next five years, through 2025, cybercrime could cost companies, including companies of any size, as much as $6 trillion. This is because the internet is increasingly an essential and necessary part of business.
For this reason, dozens of training centers and universities are betting on cybersecurity. Only in Spain there are more than 80 centers that teach studies related to this discipline. There is no doubt that, as long as technology exists and society moves towards continuous digitization, cybersecurity will be a scenario to continue developing.
Why study a master's degree in cybersecurity?
Of all the possible studies related to computing, communications and cybersecurity, postgraduate studies are the ones that generate the most interest among students and professionals.
Studies of this type are aimed especially at profiles that come from ICT engineering and who know how computer networks, telematic services, operating systems, software design and cryptography work.
Nowadays it is also becoming very necessary to have notions about block technology and cryptocurrencies. The idea is to train professionals with sufficient acting capacity to face any cybersecurity and information protection problem. And that all this leads to the development of systems that prevent the vulnerability of organizations and the information they accumulate.
