BMW 8 Series convertible 2022: convertible gets up to date
The 2022 convertible BMW 8 Series is the convertible version of the German model, which receives a restyling three years after its presentation. It has 530 horsepower and a series of aesthetic changes both inside and outside to keep up with. It is available in Spain from 120,100 euros.
The 8 Series convertible 2022 is the update of the 2019 BMW 8 Cabrio Series, which was originally presented in November 2019. It is naturally linked to the BMW 8 Series Coupe 2022, which also receives a restyling in the same line, and also related to the BMW 8 Series Grand Coupe.
BMW series 8 converter 2022: outer
The differential factor of the BMW 8 Series convertible 2022 compared to the other variants of the 8 Series is naturally its convertible condition, which in this case is concrete thanks to a canvas ceiling that takes 15 seconds to open and close.
Another new feature of the restyling presented in January 2022 is that the 8 Series convertible now offers the advantages of a BMW M package, which ultimately translates into the presence of this emblem right between the front wheels and the A-pillars.
This M package materializes on a front axle that has subtle variations relative to the original form of the generation and more worked aerodynamically finished surfaces in the same body color. On the rear axis, however, the diffuser has a dark finish.
An obvious change in this update is the pattern of the lateral lower air sockets of the front, which are now larger and horizontally structured rather than showing a geometric pattern as in the past.
The central double grille in the shape of a kidney is now also illuminated, thus reinforcing the presence of the vehicle on the road. The driver can disable that lighting if he wishes.
Serial, the tires are 19 inches long and bear the signature of BMW. There is the option to adopt 20 inch tires. Versions with V8 engine also receive a specific design of 20 inches especially sporty.
BMW series 8 converter 2022: internal
The inside of the BMW 8 Series convertible 2022 has a series with a package of BMW M and with the BMW live Cockpit Professional driving position.
This translates into a 12.3 inch digital instrument panel and a new info-entertainment screen that grows from 10.25 to 12.3 inches compared to the original configuration of this generation. It offers serial head-up display.
The vehicle is connected to the Network, allowing you to access real-time navigation and a personal assistant. The car can be connected to a mobile phone without cable, and offers wireless mobile load and a high-fidelity loudspeaker system.
The six-cylinder versions win with this restyling the multifunction seats previously offered only in the BMW M 850i, with greater lateral support and more comfort for longer cruises.
BMW series 8 converter 2022: equipment
One of the singularities of the BMW 8 Series convertible 2022 is that its presentation is part of the 50th anniversary of the creation of BMW M, and consequently its buyers can request as an option to replace the emblem of the brand with a classic logo inspired by the 1973 logo.
Among its standard driving aids, it includes a frontal collision alert, a lane change warning and a road exit alert, as well as a signal recognition that is capable of interpreting the track speed limit and preventing the vehicle from exceeding it.
It also features a serial parking assistant with rear vision camera.
Entre las ayudas opcionales, destaca un control de crucero adaptativo y un sistema de Stop&Go para circular por ciudad de forma más eficiente. También gana una mejora en los asistentes a la dirección y el mantenimiento de carril.
BMW series 8 converter 2022: mechanical
The convertible BMW 8 Series is offered with two gasoline engines and a diesel option with microhybridization.
In gasoline, the access engine is a 6 3-litre 3-gallon line cylinder of 333 horsepower that gives rise to the BMW 840i convertible-rear traction-and the BMW 840i xDrive convertible-four-wheel drive.
The rear traction variant consumes between 8.4 and 8.8 litres at 100 kilometres with emissions ranging from 191 to 201 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre.
Four-wheel drive slightly exceeds these figures: it consumes between 8.8 and 9.2 litres and emits 200 to 209 grams of carbon dioxide.
The jewel of the crown is a 4.4 liter V8 and 530 horsepower that serves as the basis for the converted BMW M850i xDrive. It consumes 10.7 to 11.0 litres of gasoline at 100 kilometres and emits 243 to 249 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre.
The convertible 8 Series also has a diesel option known as BMW 840d xDrive convertible, which combines the six-cylinder in-line engine with a microhybridization system.
It delivers 340 horsepower, slightly more than gasoline equivalents, and significantly improves consumption and emissions figures: from 6.7 to 7.0 litres at 100 kilometres; from 175 to 183 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre.
The transmission has eight speeds and can be operated manually with levas located just behind the steering wheel. The central tunnel has a lever to alternate between standstill, reverse, forward gear or parking.
