Amazon Web Services servers fail again…for the third time this month
The servers of Amazon Web Services (AWS), a cloud services platform, suffered a brief outage on Wednesday affecting a set of online portals and services used in everyday tasks. It is the third time this month that such a failure has occurred.
The Latest: Amazon Web Services reported on its page that the outage was due to a power outage at a data center in Northern Virginia and that network connectivity was back to normal.
The context: This is the latest AWS outage that has affected large sectors of the digital economy. Two weeks ago, service issues related to malfunctioning network devices created problems for Amazon-owned home security company Ring, as well as other cloud-based apps.
